Who We Are, and How We Pick a Dog

2 min 59 secDowntown Dallas, TexasFilmed 2026-08-31

Three minutes with both owners. It covers the part of this business that is hardest to show in a photograph: what a dog has to be like at home before it is allowed to be good at anything else.

The selection standard described here is the same one written out on our fully trained page, and the reason we turn people away is covered in should you actually buy a protection dog.

Sufian RahimI’m Sufian Rahim. My background is actually in IT … but for the past eight to nine years, when I first started protection dog training …

David ParrishMy name is David Parrish, co-owner of Superior Protection Dogs. I got my start in dogs … I watched a video of a German Shepherd bite a bad guy … and immediately I asked myself, how did they make it do that?

A great family dog honestly gives you peace of mind, gives you companionship — something you only know you have once you experience that yourself. I saw the impact of a dog, and I wanted to share that with everybody.

A good dog doesn’t matter if the dog is a pain to live with, if it’s a chore to let out in the morning, if you can’t take it out in public. So it has to have both: an amazing family companion, and be able to turn it on if need be.

A very common misunderstanding is that these dogs are dangerous all the time. We do want a potential level of aggression in these dogs, but most of the time these dogs are going to be hanging out on the couch, in the backyard.

For selection we look for extreme levels of confidence, and we rigorously test the dogs to see how they hold up. Aside from being extremely selective, the dog actually integrates within our own homes and is around us far before it’s around your family and your friends.

Some prerequisites for a dog to be ready for its new owner: it has to be a fantastic member of my family … a dog living in our house.

We provide dogs to dog lovers — whether you run a professional security business where you need a very serious dog guarding a gate, or you’re a family that is looking for an added layer in their home.

David ParrishWhen a family takes one of our dogs home, I want them to be proud of the new family pet, knowing that they have that steadfast guardian at their side — to be happy to wake up in the morning and live life with a well-trained dog, on the couch, and enjoy time with man’s best friend.

Selecting carefully for the right home and the right family is extremely important.

Superior Protection Dogs is based in Texas, but we are proudly serving the entire country.

A Down-Stay on a Downtown Street

20 secDowntown Dallas, TexasFilmed 2026-08-29

Twenty seconds, one take, no field and no helper. Buses, crossing signals, strangers on the sidewalk — and a dog that stays where it was put while the person who put it there stops paying attention to it. This is the boring half of the work, and it is the half that decides whether you can actually live with the dog.

What to look for when a seller shows you footage like this is the whole subject of how to read a protection dog demo, and the breed working here is a Dutch Shepherd.

Zorro and the Cat

17 secFilmed July 2026

Nothing here would sell a protection dog to someone who only wants to see bite work. That is why it is on this page: how a dog behaves with the smallest animal in the house says more about living with it than any bite does.

The same question for the smallest people in the house is the subject of protection dogs and children.

Walking at Heel With the Decoy Close Behind

30 secFilmed January 2026

A dog that has just faced a decoy walks off with its handler while the same decoy follows close behind. Watch where the dog’s head is pointed, and notice that the leash never comes off.

The nearest thing in the sport is the back transport, where the helper walks ahead instead and the dog is scored on position and attention, as what Schutzhund and IGP actually test lays out, and short walks on a leash are where a new owner starts in the first 90 days.

Transcribed from the captions in the films. An ellipsis marks a caption we could not read cleanly — we would rather leave a gap than fill it in with a guess. The clips with no speech or captions have no transcript.

Video Is Not Evidence

Every company in this business posts footage, ours included, and footage is the one thing a seller has complete control over. Watch it, then come and ask for something you did not see on camera. That is the request that actually tells you something — here is how to make it.
